About Our Speakers
Anna Towers, MD
Anna Towers, MD, is Associate Professor of Oncology, McGill University and Director of the Lymphedema Program, McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), Montreal. She trained in lymphedema management in Australia under Drs. John and Judith Casley-Smith and has run an academic program at the MUHC that supports cancer patients with lymphedema since 1995. Current research studies are investigating new assessment methods as well as interventions to prevent lymphedema. Dr. Towers was Founding Co-Chair of the Canadian Lymphedema Framework, and is and the author of several book chapters and a number of articles on lymphedema assessment and management.
Anne-Marie Joncas
Anne-Marie Joncas has been dealing with lymphedema for 6 years. Inspired by the resilience of people living with lymphedema, she brings her energy to the Lymphedema Association of Quebec (LAQ). As President, she advocates on behalf of lymphedema patients and promotes the advancement of care. She was LAQ’s negotiator for a comprehensive government-subsidized program for lymphedema compression garments, effective since 2018. The next goals are the implementation of a standardized screening protocol and intensive phase treatments in the Quebec health care system, as well as better financial assistance for seniors with lymphedema. Anne-Marie is the executive director of the LAQ since February 2019.
