Randi Gage receives the Legacy Award

Celebrating the contributions of Black and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous & People of Colour) Veterans in Manitoba, past and present, for their impacts on our communities.

February is Black History Month, which honors the legacy of Black people in Canada and their contribution to our communities and nation. This year's theme is "Black Excellence: A Heritage to Celebrate; a Future to Build".

Black History Month is a time to learn more about these Canadian stories and the many other important contributions that Black Canadians and their communities have made to the history and continued growth of this country.

BMCC is pleased to partner with TD Canada Trust to celebrate the sacrifices and services of our BIPOC Veterans (Army, Navy, Air Force, RCMP and Police) on February 29th, 2024, at 6pm at the Winnipeg Winter Club. This is an Annual Inaugural Legacy Award for our veterans to show them our appreciation.

Bio - Randi Gage, Veteran and Knowledge Keeper a.k.a. Miss Randi

• Founder of the Day of Recognition and Remembrance for Aboriginal Veterans in Canada (Aboriginal Veteran’s Day 8 November)
• Charter Vice President of the original National Aboriginal Veterans Association of Canada
• Charter Secretary/Treasurer of the Manitoba Aboriginal Veterans Association
• Vietnam Era Veteran where she served as an Armour Supply Specialist
• Community activist and champion for Aboriginal Veteran’s rights. She is currently building a memorial in Riverton, Manitoba dedicated to Aboriginal Veterans and in Honour of All Veterans across Manitoba
• A Voice for rights of women, children, men and the less fortunate
• Retired Palliative/End-of-Life Care Specialist
• Past Member of the Cancer Care Board of Director, was a Committee Member of the Quality & Patient Safety Committee and the Communications Committee of the CCMB-BOD
• Active volunteer in the Aboriginal and African Communities in Winnipeg
• Recipient of the 2016 Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation for exemplary contributions to the care and well-being of Veterans, and to the remembrance of the contributions, sacrifices, and achievements of Veterans
• Recipient of the 2014 Manitoba Lieutenant Governor’s Make a Difference Community Award for Volunteerism
• Recipient of the 2013 Women of Distinction Award for Volunteerism, Advocacy and Community Enhancement
• Guest speaker for the Manitoba Status of Women’s 2013 International Women’s Day event at the Manitoba Legislature
• Speaker with the Memory Project of the Historica Canada and Canadian Veterans Affairs
• With four decades of volunteer service behind her she still is an internationally known speaker on Veterans Issues, End-of-Life/Palliative Care, Diabetes, Seniors Health, and other health and lifestyle issues
• She has provided support to the Manitoba African Immigrant, population, as well as other Immigrant populations, as they develop their family health care and settlement needs documentation. She was a researcher for the Traditional Healing Methods of the African Population for use by local and national health care organizations
• Randi holds an Associate of Applied Arts and Science in Bio-Medical Electronic Technology, a Bachelor of Arts and Science in Medical Studies, and a Masters in Spiritual Healing
• Randi spent February 2005 in eastern Sri Lanka on Tsunami Relief as a support member for a Manitoba medical team
• Randi is known for her ability to speak on difficult topics using humor to ease the pain. She is an Ojibway woman who can walk comfortably in both worlds with an understanding of the many diverse issues each faces. Randi speaks from the heart, using the language of love and compassion. She is a gentlewoman with the mouth of a sailor, and the heart and the will of gladiator
