MCW member Maria Peluso, Vice President of Government Affairs, received the King Charles III’s Coronation Medal for her lifetime work advancing public policy issues, social justice, and interfaith dialogue. The award was presented to Maria by Anthony Housefather, MP in the Cote St Luc Ashkelon Gardens on August 29th.

The Coronation Medal commemorates the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III as King of Canada. Cathy Bursey-Sabourin, Fraser Herald at the Canadian Heraldic Authority, designed the medal. The Chancellery of Honours administers it (Governor General).

Nominations were made based on criteria for meritorious conduct, using guidelines to ensure recipients reflected the diversity of their populations.

The inaugural ceremony occurred on May 6, 2024, when the Governor General presented the first medals to the Lieutenant Governors and Territorial Commissioners. During its anniversary year, 30,000 medals were awarded to members of the Canadian Armed Forces (regular and reserve, Cadet instructors, Canadian Rangers), federal departments and agencies (notably from the Department of Defence) and to local citizens who have made a difference in their communities and provinces.

At the same ceremony in Cote St. Luc, Mr. Joseph Panunto, husband of MCW member Brenda Panunto and Sharon Nelson of the Jamaican Association of Montreal also received the King Charles III Medal for their years of service to their respective communities.

Pictures of the ceremony are availabe in our gallery.
