DKG MONTREAL CHAPTER – AN ILLUSTRIOUS HISTORY COMES
TO AN END
Published on February 07, 2025
The Montreal Council of Women (MCW) federate, Delta Kappa Gamma (DKG) International Society for Key Women Educators has a rich legacy of empowering women in education, fostering personal and professional growth, and promoting excellence in the field. This esteemed organization operates through its international and local chapters, making a significant impact on the lives of women educators worldwide.
Unfortunately, the Montreal Chapter of DKG, which had been a long-standing MCW federate, recently ceased operations. As a result, its members have dispersed, with some joining other provincial chapters and some maintaining their connection to the MCW as individual members.
In light of this development, the MCW extends a warm invitation to all former DKG members to join our ranks and continue the important work of advancing education and empowering women educators.
One notable DKG member and representative who has been an active and supportive presence within the MCW is Rena Entus. As part of preserving the legacy of the Montreal Chapter, Rena has been invited to share her reflections on her years of involvement with DKG Montreal. Her insights provide a valuable perspective on the chapter's contributions and the lasting impact it has had on its members and the educational community.
This transition, while bittersweet, presents an opportunity for former DKG members to channel their passion for education and women's empowerment through new avenues within the MCW. By joining forces, these dedicated educators can continue to make a meaningful difference in their field and in the lives of women in education.

Rena Entus: Reflections on my years with DKG Montreal Chapter
While I was still a working educator, I was invited to join DKG Quebec, and to become part of DKG International, an international professional organization for women in education. What an opportunity! I became involved with a great group of women who shared a common interest…” all aspects of education”. We worked hard to support our local teachers, those involved in our education system, as well as our students.
I had the chance to attend Canadian and International conferences and conventions. I met women from all over the world. I learned from all those people with whom I interacted, and from participating in all the various DKG events. I had the opportunity to grow as a woman as well as an educator. And back home, another local door opened, I had the occasion to represent DKG on the MCW. Because of that connection, I am now a proud individual member of MCW.
For me, aside from all the experiential opportunities I had, the most valuable reward I gained from being a member of an international organization has been the friendships I made both locally and abroad. It is the women I met and with whom I retain friendships and relationships that means the most to me.
As the door to DKG Quebec closed, I opened another door, and became a member of DKG Ontario. And, happily I maintain my membership locally with the MCW. But, my friends within DKG QC & Ontario and International, as well as the MCW are relationships for as long as I live! I am one lucky woman.
